The Protector of Citizens Sаšа Јаnkоvić expresses his satisfaction with the adoption of amendments to the Law on Permanent and Temporary Residence, which were voted for in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia on 17 November, on the proposal of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, upon the initiative of the Protector of Citizens. Those amendments allow the citizens who do not fulfil the requirements for registering their permanent address to obtain personal documents and thus to be in the position to exercise a set of other rights and interests.

The Protector of Citizens most severely condemns the practice of organised referral of children to attend the events that are not suitable for their age, such as the recent events in Јаgоdina, which violates the rights of children and their parents.

The Protector of Citizens expresses his regret for the fact that Serbia is not the safe place for those who differ from majority for their sexual orientation. The National Security Council and the Ministry of Internal Affairs today have only been able to recognise and establish that fact.

On the occasion of 1st October, the International Day of Older Persons, the Protector of Citizens recalls that Serbia is a country of old persons and calls for a greater institutional and family responsibilities to them.

The lack of funds in the state and local budgets significantly limits the institutional assistance provided to the elderly, but we can often use the available money to do something more. The families of older persons should also be reminded of their obligation to take care of their parents and relatives.
